Happy Endings

A couple weeks ago I was talking with a friend of mine about Fall Out 3. He was explaining to me how the ending is so depressing. The game is amazing until the ending and then it's just sadness and you feel depressed. I had a simple answer.

We as humans cannot accept happy endings.

Many movies, books and video games are being made to be more realistic. I like this idea a lot and I enjoy being able to picture these fantastic things in today's world. The endings are usually sad and horrible and very "real." The thing is, real life does have happy endings. They may not be fairy tale happy, but they are happy for the people that experience them. Yes I know that everybody does not get to experience, but there are the few that do. There are many people who tell me that I am wrong. I don't think so. Life is full of ups and downs, are there are lucky people that get the chance to end it on an up.

As for movies and such, I'm a little tired of this whole realistic thing. I'm not saying that the movies are bad, but when I go to a movie, I want to escape into a world that is not this one. I want to be drawn into a different time and place. With fairies or monsters or robots or whatever else can be so different from our world. It's just getting kind of old. This super hero and that super hero. There is a reason that they are in comics and not real life. Like I love Batman and Batman Begins was realistic and such and really good, but it wasn't the good old Batman is here to save the day. I think part of it is because I am a romantic. I also like to see the good in people. I want happy endings. I want one for myself, but also for my friends and family and everyone else. I don't care if Mr. Joe Schmo three blocks down can't accept a happy ending because it's not realistic enough for him. He can just go eat dirt. I go to see movies to be entertained and I want a freaking HAPPY ENDING at the end of my movie.

Well, sorry if it's a little repetitive. Please comment and let me know what you think. I don't care if you don't agree, I'm not going to hate you for it. I just think it'll be interesting to see what other people's opinions are about happy endings and such.

Love, Stasi
